HELLO, I’M BRUCE BALLENGER

As an Emeritus Professor of English whose work crosses boundaries between creative writing and writing theory, I provide valuable resources for teachers and students interested in exploring how writers write. I have published a variety of textbooks about writing that are used in classrooms across the United States, and an array of essays since the late 1980s.

PUBLICATIONS

Since 1994, my  textbooks in the Curious series have been introducing students to how they can write to learn and read to write. Additional books and publications examine the craft of creative nonfiction, and my own personal essays explore ideas about  nostalgia, memory, collecting, loss, and other subjects that made me curious.

RESOURCES

FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

I'm anxious to share handouts, readings, videos, audio essays, and other resources I've developed over the years with teachers, students, and writers.  Whether you are an educator planning the next class, a student using one of my textbooks, or a creative nonfiction writer interested in studying craft, these resources are for you.
